WooCommerce’s built-in Local Pickup shipping method lets a customer choose to collect their order instead of having it delivered, but it stops there. It does not ask them when. If you want an actual pickup time slot on the checkout page, that has to come from a plugin. This gap trips up a lot of stores because it looks like it should already be there. WooCommerce ships Local Pickup as a shipping method, the same way it ships Flat Rate or Free Shipping, and none of the built-in shipping methods carry a date-time picker. Anything more than “pick up in store, no time given” is custom behavior a plugin has to add on top of checkout, whether that’s the classic checkout page or the newer WooCommerce Checkout block. The Pro version adds the more interesting piece, which is dynamically switching what a customer sees based on where they’re ordering from. You can set delivery and pickup both available to local customers, then automatically fall back to pickup-only for anyone outside your delivery zone, without duplicating shipping zone logic by hand.

Setup is a single menu item. Once it’s active, a new “Woo Delivery” entry shows up in the WordPress admin sidebar, and that’s where every setting lives, from the calendar language to which weekdays are open for pickup. It also states explicit compatibility with the WooCommerce Checkout block alongside the classic checkout, and with Elementor, Divi, and CartFlows, which matters if your checkout page isn’t the stock WooCommerce template.

The catch is that the free version is genuinely basic. Per-slot pickup fees, hiding the shipping address section automatically when pickup is chosen, and that location-based delivery/pickup switching are all Pro-only. The plugin’s WordPress.org listing also doesn’t state a minimum PHP version anywhere, which is a small but real gap in an otherwise well-maintained readme, and worth confirming against your host’s PHP version yourself before relying on it.

That WordPress 1.3 minimum on Order Delivery Date for WooCommerce is not a typo, it’s just never been updated. The plugin has been on WordPress.org since 2012, and the “requires at least” field is a leftover from that era rather than a meaningful constraint on a modern site. What matters more is that this plugin, from Tyche Software, is marketed and built as a delivery-date tool first. Pickup is supported as a checkout condition (you can require pickup for certain shipping methods, categories, or user roles) but the whole plugin is framed around getting a delivery date onto the order, not managing a pickup counter.

Where it pulls ahead of the other three is the time-slot builder itself. Instead of adding slots one at a time, you can generate a full day of slots in bulk from a fixed duration and interval, block specific slots for specific weekdays or dates, and cap how many orders each slot accepts. Settings are split across a Date Settings tab, a Holidays tab, and a Time Slot tab, and once a customer picks a slot it shows up as a Delivery Date column on the WooCommerce Orders page, so store staff don’t have to open every order to see the schedule. The honest limitation is that pickup gets treated as a variant of delivery, not a first-class feature. If your store genuinely delivers most orders and only occasionally offers pickup, that framing fits. This is the one to read carefully before installing, because its name suggests it solves the exact problem this post is about, and the free version doesn’t. Advanced Local Pickup for WooCommerce, built by Zorem and often shortened to ALP, extends WooCommerce’s native Local Pickup shipping method into a full click-and-collect workflow: it adds a “Ready for Pickup” order status that fires an automatic email when staff mark an order ready, and a “Picked Up” status to confirm collection. That’s genuinely useful, and it’s a real gap in stock WooCommerce, which has no way to tell a customer their order is ready. But none of that is a time slot. The free version has no checkout-side date or time picker at all.

Pickup appointment scheduling, the feature that actually lets a customer reserve a date and time slot at checkout with configurable slot lengths of 15, 30, or 60 minutes, is part of ALP PRO, alongside multiple pickup locations, curbside pickup mode, and a QR-code handoff system for staff to scan on collection. Setup for the free version is quick: go to Plugins, install and activate, then configure everything under WooCommerce > Local Pickup, where you set your store name, address, hours, and pickup instructions. Local Pickup for WooCommerce by Dotstore is built around the idea that a store might have more than one physical location, and a customer should be able to choose which one to collect from at checkout, complete with an appointment date and time. The free version already lets you define multiple pickup locations, assign pickup per order or per product, apply pickup-location tax rules, and set a lead time so a product isn’t offered for same-day collection before staff can actually prepare it. Configuration lives under its own “DotStore Plugins” menu in the WordPress admin, under Local Pickup for WooCommerce, with a Pickup Locations tab where you add each location with an Add New button.
